Wintergreen Resort is a golfer's haven. There are two courses, with 45 holes offering two completely different settings and two invigorating experiences.
Devils Knob is Virginia's highest golf course. This mountaintop course, elevation 3,850 feet, is typically 10-15 degrees cooler than the valley below. Players know they can escape the summer heat at Devils Knob (average temperature around 76 degrees). Its mountaintop setting, with panoramic views offers a riot of color in the fall. From mid-April through late October Devils Knob is open for play to registered Wintergreen Resort guests, members and guests of members.
Stoney Creek, in the the Rockfish Valley below wanders through a rural setting that is as relaxing as it is challenging. World-renowned golf architect Rees Jones designed a trio of nines that blend seamlessly into the natural surroundings. Playable year round, there are times when you can ski at the Wintergreen Resort and play golf at this central Virginia golf course on the same day.
You can enjoy tennis year-round at the Wintergreen Resort. Located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains,Wintergreen has both mountaintop and valleyfacilities, offering a total of 19 clay courts and 3 indoor deco-turf courts.

In addition, Tennis Magazine has ranked Wintergreen among the nation's top 50 tennis programs for the past 18 years, and in 2010 awarded Wintergreen the distinction of being the #1 resort for families in the United States.
Wintergreen has several venues for swimming. The Aquatics & Fitness Center indoor pool at the Wintergarden is open year-round. All outdoor pools are open daily from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day. Outdoor pools are located at the Aquatics & Fitness Center and Stoney Creek Golf Course. There are also neighborhood pools at Laurelwood and Chestnut Springs.
In addition, there is Lake Monocan, a 20-acre lake and park at Stoney CreekLake Monocan is staffed daily with a lifeguard Memorial Day through Labor Day, weather permitting. Snack bar, canoes, kayaks, fishing equipment, standard road bike rentals, horseshoe pits, sand volleyball court, sandy beach, lounge chairs, picnic area and outdoor charcoal grills are available.
Situated high atop the Blue Ridge Mountains, Wintergreen offers spectacular views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and The Rockfish and Shenandoah Valleys. Perhaps the best way to discover this beauty is to get out and hike. Developed and maintained by The Nature Foundation at Wintergreen, the resort has over 30 miles of marked hiking trails for you to explore. Guided hikes are offered by The Nature Foundation on Saturdays, with an additional hike on Wednesdays during the summer. The mountain and valley system of trails at Wintergreen is divided into two types: access trails and perimeter trails. Besides the map and tree blazes, there are signs at intersections with trail name, direction and blaze color.
The trails on the mountain wind around the two mountain peaks that make up what we call Wintergreen – Devils Knob and Blackrock. The perimeter trails circumnavigate the resort with access trails that break off for shorter hikes. Both mountain and valley trails explore waterfalls and unbroken wilderness. These trails complete the Wintergreen experience of discovering the wide diversity of terrain, natural gardens and animal life.
Wintergreen has cross-country full loops with uphill and downhill portions suitable for intermediate or expert riders. The trails are not intended for beginner or inexperienced riders. Intermediate riders should follow the blue courses on the trail map, and expert riders can follow the red courses for a greater challenge.
Wintergreen is a great venue for extended family vacations. Nationally-recognized children's programs make it the perfect mountain resort for all ages. A year-round kid vacation calendar includes family campfires and storytelling, holiday weekend events, games, activities and great winter sports. A variety of family activities are available and planned each week during the summer. Families can look forward to fun olympics, outdoor movies under the stars on the big screen, guided hikes, candy bingo, workshops and more. There are even campfires with story tellers. Other activities include:
