The French Philosopher and Jesuit Priest, Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, once commented, “Man’s duty is to proceed as if there are no limits to his abilities, we are collaborators in Creation.” It is a rare privilege in life to be a collaborator in creating one of the most unique and beautiful communities in America. I was very fortunate to be involved with Wintergreen at the beginning with several of my colleagues. We have positively guided and influenced the lives of generations of families for over 5 decades. Wintergreen has been thoughtfully developed over the past 50 years into today’s mature and environmentally conscious community. With a history of billions of dollars of real estate transactions, we instill a strong commitment to owners to preserve the natural beauty of Wintergreen, We also make sure our clients feel secure that they have been well informed, well represented, and pleased with the outcome of their negotiations. 

I grew up on a cattle and horse farm in neighboring Albemarle and Louisa Counties, and my family has lived in Virginia since colonial times. I am the oldest of five and served in the U.S. Coast Guard was educated at the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. My wife, Judy Mather, is from Ligonier, PA. was the social director at the Greenbrier Hotel when we met. We are blessed with two sons, Will, a graduate of Villanova University, and John, a graduate of the University of Virginia. Both boys grew up at Wintergreen. Will and John are now married and each have three children. Will and Stephanie live in Crozet, Va. and John and Taylor in Potomac, Md. They visit often and our little grandchildren love to visit Mimi and Gramps and love our community and everything it has to offer.  “The future is finer than all the past,” as Chardin also wrote, fosters optimism for Wintergreen’s continued growth and positive impact on future generations.
