Halloween at Wintergreen: A Family Guide to Spooktacular Season

Halloween at Wintergreen is festive and family-first: haunted chairlift rides, seasonal craft nights, and a close-knit community that shows up for each other. Late October also brings the last of the foliage at the lower elevations, making it a great weekend for families to get a real feel for year-round life on the mountain.

What Halloween events happen in and around Wintergreen?

The Resort hosts multiple Spooktacular event nights featuring Haunted Chairlift Rides, Halloween-themed treats, moving screenings, games and more. The tone here is playful and family-friendly rather than scary; a true mountain Halloween. Full details here

Blue Ridge Mountain Maze features a full corn maze, pumpkin picking, campfires, farm animals, slides, hard cider, and live music on Fridays from 6-9 PM. Costumes are encouraged! Don’t miss Harvest Fest on October 24.

For adults, there are multiple brewery and winery events. Devils Backbone Brewery hosts the Creepy Halloween Bar Tour on October 30 and 31. Blue Mountain Brewery will host the 6th Annual Blue Ridge Tunnel After Dark on Friday the 30th. All month long, Hill Top Berry Farm Winery & Meadery holds Spooky Season. These are just a few examples – for a comprehensive local calendar, we’d suggest the Visit Nelson County events listing.

Is Wintergreen a good place for families year-round?

This is where the mountain quietly wins people over. Beyond the ski slopes and summer lake days, there’s a full calendar of nature programs, craft nights, hikes, and community gatherings that make Wintergreen feel like a neighborhood, not just a resort. Families who move here often are pleasantly surprised at how engaged the community is during the “between” seasons.

What’s the community like in the pre-ski season?

Smaller, warmer, more connected. The crowds thin after foliage season, and what’s left is the year-round community: the people who wave on the trail and save you a seat at craft night. It’s the “visitors become neighbors” quality that’s kept families coming back for decades.

What should buyers know as the season turns toward ski?

Late October is the last calm before ski season, when demand – and prices on sought-after inventory – tend to firm up. If a winter-ready mountain home is on your list, the weeks before the first snow are a smart time to look. Visit WintergreenRealEstate.com for a comprehensive list of primary- and second-home options. We’d love to show you around.

What is the best season at Wintergreen?

Depends entirely on who you ask. Autumn brings cooler weather, beautiful foliage, and fun festivals and events. When the snow starts blowing, residents and visitors enjoy skiing and snowboarding, snow tubing, and cozy nights in front of a warm fire.

The spring thaw brings new life as local plans unfurl their leaves and buds, with many hiking trails re-opening. Summer is a blast with wildflower bloom in full effect, plus Lake Monocan activities, pools and pickleboard, and lots of live music.
